Seizures and Water Safety On-Demand Training

People with epilepsy have a significantly increased risk of drowning compared to the general population.

Water activities can be fun, healthy, and inclusive for people with epilepsy, but they require extra planning and awareness. This short training will help you understand how to reduce risk, respond safely, and support seizure‑smart choices around water.

Who should take this training?  This training is meant to be taken by people with epilepsy, their family members, caregivers and friends. It can also be helpful for camp counselors, lifeguards, physical education teachers, and anyone else who is responsible for supporting individuals with seizures in and around water.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand why water safety is a critical issue for people with epilepsy
• Recognize that seizures in water require immediate emergency response
• Learn the appropriate steps to take to safely respond to a seizure in water and the precautions that should be taken to ensure water safety for those impacted by seizures.
