Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Lorna Myers Scholarship

Congratulations to the 2024 Lorna Myers PNES Scholarship Recipients.

Thanks to the continued generosity of Dr. Lorna Myers, Epilepsy Alliance America has a scholarship program for students with a diagnosis of psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES).

In June 2024, Epilepsy Alliance America awarded 21 scholarships for a total amount of $18,500. In the last four years, Epilepsy Alliance America has provided support to 42 students in 22 states.

These one-time awards were based on the quality of applications through a competitive scoring system that balanced need with achievements. The Scholarship Review committee was faced with the daunting of challenge of reviewing a record-number of applications from students across the country.

We awarded scholarships to students in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. While most of our scholarship recipients were high school seniors approaching their first-year of college, we also had non-traditional aged students apply and receive funding. This included a student who is attending nursing school, as well as someone studying for a Masters in Social Work.

Acknowledgements
Thank you again to Dr. Lorna Myers who donates the royalties of her book, PSYCHOGENIC NON-EPILEPTIC SEIZURES: A GUIDE, to Epilepsy Alliance America, making these scholarships possible. The Scholarship Review Committee is led by Patricia Gibson, Epilepsy Alliance America board member, as well as national leaders in the field of Functional Seizures / PNES.
